Sorry about that Wix advert slapped on the top of every page, trust me it's as annoying to me as it is to you (maybe even more). But before embarking on this decision to blog-hood, I did some research into the different blogging sites out there - Wordpress, Medium but the user friendliness of Wix convinced me the annoying advert was worth it. So sorry about that one folks.
I have lied to you. Although it's not a big lie and it most definitely won't hurt anyone it is a lie nonetheless. The name of the site is ClassicsGrad which is a lie, I'm actually an Ancient History and Classical Archaeology graduate. The difference between these two terms is that Classics tends to focus more on learning history through translating Latin and Greek sources but my degree focused more of sources in translation and archaeology. I am proud to have studied Ancient History and Archaeology, it afforded me less time in language classes and the opportunity to attend archaeological digs. However AncientHistoryAndClassicalArchaeologyGrad is more than a bit of a mouthful, alongside the discipline of Ancient History being fairly new in contrast to the established Classics degree. When applying for jobs often Ancient History isn't even an option but Classics always is.
I see myself as a student of Classics as I learnt the core themes of what the term represents - the romans, greeks, imperialism, democracy, warfare and peace - even if I don't posses a particular proficiency in ancient languages (although I do have two years of university-level Latin under my belt). There it is guys - laid bare. I've started this project on a lie (even if a tiny white one) but I'll try to make sure this fibbing doesn't become a habit and hope to be as honest and accurate going forward.
